A Mother’s Day Gift

He wanted to present her with a token of affection,

but what small gift would he choose? What would be perfection?

He considered chocolates but she said she’s on a diet,

perhaps some music or a film, but she prefers the quiet.

He could take her out for a really first-rate meal,

but somehow that idea, well, right it did not feel.

He thought about the past, how she had watched him grow,

and around that concept, his ideas began to flow.

He’d buy for her a pot of plants, ones still strong, alive;

the ones that she could care for, ones she’d ensure would thrive.

He still had some small worry, that vanished in a while

when he gave it to his mother, and saw her delighted smile.
