Did you know that wine glasses can communicate with each other? Not only that – they are constantly bickering.

Behind the bar in a café called Pallete, wine glasses were carefully arranged in three rows. They were always polished and shiny, identical and seemingly friends. But that was not the case; the ones in the back row were always teasing the ones in the front.

“We are safe back here!”

“Yes! You have more of a chance of falling over the edge and breaking!”

“And you are taken off the shelf more, so you get scratched faster! We back here are as good as new!”

But the glasses in the front row were not bothered.

“I hope as many customers as possible want to drink wine today.”

“Me too. I can’t wait to get away from those bitter glasses in the back. Even if being carried around on a plate all day is a higher risk of shattering and dying, it is still more fun than listening to all that teasing.”

“Agreed.”

Unfortunately, the glasses in the back row were right. Weeks, months and years passed, and in that time front-row glasses shattered and got replaced, while back-row ones were always untouched.

“What did I tell you,” one of the back-row glasses said to its neighbour. “We are safe back here. Those front-row fools are extremely unlucky. I guess carrying wine is not worth it.”

“But,” the neighbour wondered. “What does it feel like to carry wine anyway?”

“How should I know? I have been sitting here, upside down, since the first time they unpacked me.”

“But aren’t we made to carry wine?”

“Well yes.”

“So what are we doing? I mean, what are we actually doing?”

“Nothing. But at least we’re safe.”

“Right.”

Both of them came to a depressing realisation - living a safe, comfortable, and hidden life is no life at all.

The End.
