a pre-meditated drive

My heart’s in my throat

but the music travels through.

And I think of the late-night drive

from yours to mine

and the humid breeze

and the swell in my smile.

In the search for an epiphany,

I only ask now, did you pull your shoulder

as you drove the hatchet through my neck?
