Bittersweet!

She could not stay still, could not rest. How many days now since she had eaten?

The room lurches from side-to-side as dizziness engulfs her. She puts out a hand to rest against the back of the chair, trying to steady herself. Momentarily she shuts her eyes, only to find that was a big mistake. Spiralling in darkness, she snaps open her eyes and fights the urge to retch.

The pain in her stomach bends her over. Her throat constricts and she can barely breathe. Forced to sit for a moment now, she knows the feeling will pass. How many times has it happened? Too many, and each time the intensity is stronger.

Food! She needs food. There is a pile of it in the kitchen cupboards, in the refrigerator. A lot of it will need throwing out, but she just can’t make herself care enough to do anything about it. What does it matter now? All her favorite meals, snacks, just sitting there and going to waste while she herself is starving.

The door opens and she hears him enter the room. She won’t give him the satisfaction of a look; not even a glance. After all, it is his fault that she is like this. How she wished she had never set eyes on him.

You’re going to have to give in sooner or later, Kate.” The pity he had felt towards her is wearing thin. The tone of his voice makes it obvious. “You won’t die. The pain will just get worse and worse, you’ll become weaker and weaker.....But you will not die.”

I can’t.” Two words rasp out from between her dry lips.

We have all felt like that, but you have to. I’m sick of the guilt that you are piling on, girl. You wanted it as much as I did, now learn to take the consequences. After the first time you’ll find it really is not that bad.”

I....I don’t....want....to.”

You have no choice! Come on, Kate. Stand up and come with me. I hate to watch you suffer so.”

The hint of compassion back in his voice, the agony that is tormenting her body, finally they break their way through the resistance of her mind. Acceptance is bittersweet, something with which she has no option.

She stands. “Okay. I’ll come with you.”

At the touch of his hand she feels herself transform. The pain and the agony have gone, but not the hunger. The urge to feed is stronger now. For a moment she wonders if he put her through all the torture just to get her compliance.

As they make their way along the street she begins to feel nervous. Not enough to make her turn back though, and there can be no denying that there is a touch of excitement present too.

The beat of the music, the flash of the lights; she can feel them, sense them, while they are still a distance away. It draws her forward with a sense of urgency. She is walking faster than him now, pulling him along in her eagerness.

Inside the door, the room pulsates. With sounds, with lights, with gyrating bodies all tuned in to the rhythm. She licks her lips and feels them grow, her fangs. She knows she is beautiful, as she attracts the glances of both men and women. He has already found a partner to dance with, but still turns to her with an encouraging look.

Who to pick? They are all beautiful people here. She looks and she sees, dances her way over to him. And as they dance she can see the pulse throbbing through his neck, the vein becomes irresistible.

She leans forward and bites, her mouth filling with the only thing for which she hungers now....blood!

The taste... bittersweet.
