“I started to remember you last night darling” she spoke the words to herself, as if the sound of her voice would reach her love….where ever he might be. “I want to talk to you but I don’t want you to talk to me” she offered as she stood.

“When the babies died” she spoke, her voice a graceful whisper in the darkness. “When they died did you watch them cry” She made her way through the home, her mind a cluttered mess of fog and incoherent thoughts, spiraling in an uncontrolled vortex of images and sounds of fantasies and memories. She didn’t know where she was, she didn’t know who she was. She could here the sound of a baby crying, She could hear him calling out to her and she froze.

“Baby!!!!” she called out to him. “Baby where are you?!” she needed to find him, her heart racing, her body going numb as excited chills sent prickles through her being.

“Baby I can hear you” she ran farther into the darkness, stopping as she saw the room. Her baby stood there, he stood there, so tiny, so feeble. His arms so little, so fragile, he had the brightest eyes, a smile on his face. He cooed as he saw his mother and he made his way to her. He ran, as fast as he could, his little legs slapping hard against the floor in his attempt at an awkward sprint as he made his way to her, he reached her, hugging her leg……she woke up.

She lay there in her bed, her clothes coated thick with her nights sweat, the smell of musk lingering thickly in her room. She turned to her side and reached out a hand caressing…..where he should have been.

“I started to remember you again tonight……” she spoke to her vision of him, laying where he should have been “But I can only hear the baby cry” as she spoke she closed her eyes and once again she faded into sleep.
