It was a hot June day in southern California the air seemed to be completely motionless, which is how I felt. It was 3 months after the “accident” and the doctors were still saying I am delusional, but I know what I saw. The only person that still believes me is my grandmother. But I can promise you one thing. I will figure out what happened to him

Let me explain what I saw the last march. So it was a normal grocery run to the only biggish town within miles of us… three hours away. We got a lot of things. (we needed to buy enough for the next month) Well, we were on our way back and we just got out of a big argument about a box of cereal (i know it seems stupid now that I think about it) and now I can never apologize to him. So it was an almost silent car ride until there was a huge booming sound from the sky. “What was that?” he said surprised.

“I have no idea,” I said

“Should we pull over”

“I don’t think so…” I just wanted to get home (mostly to complain to my mother)

“There is a gas station down the roa–” And then he was gone. and  i black out. Next thing I know I’m in a hospital with like 20 people hovering over me with cameras and people shoving things in my face, then my grandmother was there and I thought it might be okay after all.

She asked if I was alright and i told her I was fine. She just looked at me with a blank expression and I knew right then that something was wrong. “Wait where is he?!” I said.

“They haven't found the body yet…”

“What do you mean, we were in the middle of f***ing nowhere,” I said, “well, where the hell is he?!?!”

“I don’t know! I’m just as angry as you!!”

“I’m sorry, I just need some time to take this all in.”

“I understand, I’ll check in with you in later… just hang in there” and like that everyone was gone. And as soon as that happened I tried to remember every detail from the “accident.” Well, first there was the first bang. Then the second one and I slightly remember, just before the light there was a strange silhouette of a man with a sick smile. That’s when my dad disappeared and the entire highway was covered with our months worth of groceries.

And then my grandmother rushed into the door telling me we had to leave right this second. I don’t think I have seen my grandmother so afraid in my life. As she was carrying me out of the hospital I just barely caught a glimpse of the guy I saw on the highway. And as soon as we get out of the hospital it implodes on itself in a spectacular wave of dust and debris. Where was my mother during all of this? Well to answer that she was at a friends dinner party. Well at least someone cares about me.

“We need to get to somewhere safe,” she said

“Ok,” I barely squeaked.

She brought me to a random car and put me in the back. I was confused and overwhelmed by the entire situation. She drove out of the parking lot and almost hit like five people. I had no idea where we were or where we were going. I couldn’t sleep we stopped at this low down gas station. She asked the people for a telephone and called my mother. I couldn’t really understand what the conversation was exactly but I did hear a lot of yelling. It was mostly about my mom being responsible and caring for me and her husband and things like that.

We left silent and arrived at our next location silent too. I finally wanted to break the silence and I wanted so bad for her not to be angry. “It will be okay,” I said.

“Mm-hmm” is all she replied so I took the hint and finally I saw familiar signs and realized we were going to my house.

When we got there my mom was ready with her “oh my gosh are you okay?!”

“Yes,” I said sarcastically “I just got into a car crash, lost my father, and almost got crushed by a building… I’m perfectly fine.”

“I don’t want your attitude, I was worried about you”

“I’m sorry I’m just overwhelmed with everything that has been going on today, I just need some rest.” and there it was everything just went back to normal. Sort of. I kept having this recurring dream about random places where I saw that horrible smiling face and right after something horrible happens… every time. Then one day I was watching the news and then something I dreamed about like a week before happened in real life. I cried for like 20 minutes straight because of this horrible ringing sound after I saw the news update.

That was when I started to go and see some shrink about my dreams.  She was nice and all but I just don’t like the idea of therapists and me. And it has just been that and my dreams that have been the only unusual thing up until now…

The dreams kept on happening along with the visits to Ms. Canary, she’s my shrink, and I thought it was just a coincidence with the news thing but then it happened again, with all the ringing sounds too. Then it happened again a few days after. Now I just stop watching the news altogether. The dreams I have been having have slowed down but a few weeks ago in my dream the man from the highway looked up as if he could see me and he started talking, and all he said was, with a horrible grin, “you’re next” and then he cackled followed by a horrible cough.

The most recent dream was there was a bunch of people looking directly at me on the road I was walking. All saying the same thing. In the same horrible voice as the old man. “You're next!, You’re Next!, YOU’RE NEXT!!! That was the day I decided to leave…

I didn’t tell anyone I was leaving I just did. I took a lot of my mom’s money and just left. It was a ten-minute walk to the bus and I decided to go back to the crash site because it felt like it was calling for me. While I was there-there was no one there. Or so I thought. I saw something in the corner of my I and before I could look at what it was I was bagged and thrown in a car. Then I woke up in a warehouse somewhere…
