I look around this room we shared when we were happy

and I know I cannot display all my thoughts through my pen.

Even the most masterful writer's attempt would become sappy

when describing how I undoubtedly would love you again

if you were to return to me. However, I know it shall not be,

for time can be cruel and somber to those who do not deserve

it. As happens often, the brightest and most free-

spirited people are the ones whose demeanor is hardest to preserve.

I can only hope that you can continue to love after our time

together, as I know I must also strive to do despite the urge

I still feel. I know that it would be easier to slip into memories of our prime

than it would to reel back from the emotional verge

of depression that threatens to swallow us completely.

All we can do instead, my love, is to reconcile discreetly.
