Snake

I come without silence,

Without medicine

Or smoke.

I am the power

Of the windmills of Eden,

Grinding ghosts of pleasure

In tundra ballrooms,

Before white mirrors.

I come without weapons

Without plan,

Or mist.

I am the strangler's lisp

Heard on a clear day,

Waiting for the garden

To pass,

Between my lips.

I come without stars

Without eyes,

Or sky.

I am the bliss

Of loud plants,

Drugged in landless views

Or sweating on balconies,

In the interiors of night.
