Animals alerted first,

Heated breath over numbed lips,

Surely three months will fill Winter’s thrist,

Calling to our pets,

Nature is in it’s slumber,

Snow piled too high,

Forcing us to lumber,

Trees are stripped, changing into white coats,

Hear the Winter cripple branches,

Running a Hand over bushes,

Causing mini avalanches,

In the woods we used to know,

Home, Warmth, Far away,

Is this a mistake?,

Cold is here to stay,

How long can we withstand?,

Winer’s spindly fingers stealing the last rays of light,

Without a trace,

Leaving us with the unforgiving night,

Waiting for daybreak,

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,

Telling secrets they were meant to keep,

Seconds starting to slow,

Animals resting, ‘til the spring winds blow.
