Somebody called me selfish; someone who I miss,

Because I place my feelings slightly over his.

He called me unkind things and that I’m so demanding,

He said I lack the virtue of being understanding.

I can’t deny it hurt, frankly, very deeply,

The kind of pain that doesn’t halt, sadly, very quickly.

This is coming from the man; who manipulated me with lies,

The man who walked away despite of all my cries.

Coming from the gentleman who broke my heart in pieces,

Who leaves and then comes back; whose pattern never ceases.

Coming from the man; who’s twice older than me,

I opened all my doors so unwittingly.

The man who once had me all to his damn self,

And then put me away like a book upon a shelf.

This man who calls me selfish; whom I invited to my life,

Is also the same man who knew he had a wife.

Perhaps, I am now selfish; it’s something I confess,

Or maybe I have learned that I was settling for less.
