Bird Cage

Not one of luxury,

no gilded bars,

a basic model

will suffice.

No embellishments,

just fundamental

things of life

are needed.

Slip me inside,

I hardly notice,

the bars slim enough

to be ignored.

Watched and

judged wanting,

a figure of fun

is something I seem

to have gone and become.

No flight is possible

although my wings are not clipped

battered,

broken,

of all feathers striped.

The chains are not needed,

you could open the door,

I’m captive,

I’m trapped;

I’ll never soar.

Imprisoned by failure,

Imprisoned be fear,

all confidence vanished,

from the laughter,

the jeers.

But even though broken

my wings, they will fly,

when I take to my dream-world

where nothing confines me

but sky.

This cage cannot handle

the power of sleep,

where I can still cope

with judgemental views.

Glimpses of me,

how I used to be,

before I was grounded

and fettered

by my insecurity.
