Spider Music

He's in the ghost house

Listening to the music

Of the ancient spider,

Bruised like a love bite

A refugee from the wind

Claiming the mirror

As home.

He can hear its melodies

Even though he's tone deaf,

As it tunes its web

As it spins death

Across the glass.

He hears the reflections

The dischords

The octives,

And sees his double

Measuring the world

With string,

Cutting miles

And miles

Of paper dolls

From newspaper

Headlines

With nervous scissors,

Chasing

Shadow puppets

Across the walls

Of stars

And stars,

Obeying

The spider's nude

And crooked notes

In his parent's hall.

Stealing points

Of sound and light

To cramp,

Inside his soul.
