Can You Keep A Secret?

I’m not sure how much I can trust you with the truth? You seem to be a calm and level-headed person, someone that can be relied upon for absolute discretion. I’m still not certain so I’m going to ask you outright. Can you keep a secret?

Answer honestly, now. Can you? If I tell you my secret are you going to spread it around; gossip amongst your friends and workmates or even worse, spread it across the globe through social media?

So you promise, then, to keep what I am to tell you all to yourself. You are not to breathe a word or tell a soul, no matter how much of a shock it turns out to be.

Okay. Are you ready then?

I am not a human being. I do not originate from planet Earth. I am an alien.

I can see it in your eyes that you think I’m joking, trying to have a laugh at your expense. Perhaps you should suggest I pay a visit to a doctor, or at the very least have some time away from any kind of stress.

But the thing is – I’m not crazy. Not even slightly.

The words that I just told you are the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I might look like you but that is an illusion. If you saw me in my proper form you would have exterminated me on sight. I’d have certainly have had no chance in reaching the position that I currently hold.

I am from a planet called Minima Drojah. You will not have heard of it, won’t even have discovered it’s existence. We are way more advanced than you, in technology, in knowledge, in life in general. We are also like you, being both a greedy and manipulative race.

How does it feel to know that almost your entire planet is being controlled by another race of beings who really are pretty hell-bent on your destruction?

You are still laughing but there is a hint of uncertainty in your eyes now. You really don’t know whether to believe me or not. I can laugh it off and you’ll think it was just me, messing with your mind rather unconvincingly. Or I can carry on being serious. Whichever I do, I’ve planted that seed of doubt.

You know what the best thing about it is! You won’t breathe a word of it, not to anyone, because they would all think you were as crazy as you believed me to be. Any respect that you have built up will go in an instant; you will be pitied, become a laughable figure, and respect for me will only increase.

I’m unstoppable now. The secret I have shared with you will forever be safe because you’ll never breathe a word.
