As We Remember ....

By Colten D. Carson

As we remember the sacrifices and battlefields,

As regiment soldiers ran toward action,

We honour the fallen in the School gym,

Mourning the loss of such brave people.

As we remember with respect and honour,

The soldiers fighting with guns and bayonets,

At the Legion Hall where people gathered,

We mourn their losses and tell war stories.

As we remember the important battles,

Like Ypres, Passchendaele, and Vimy Ridge,

We gather around the local cenotaph,

To remember the soldiers who suffered.

As we remember the destroyed villages,

With destroyed and scorched buildings,

We're at the Community Hall to talk about heroes past and present,

With reflection, tears, and laughter.

As we remember the militia hospitals,

Full on wounded and dying soldiers,

At the Memorial Service we pray,

For the peaceful slumber of the fallen.

As we remember the soldiers,

Fighting in rat-infested, water filled trenches,

Desperate for survival,

We pray they'll see their families again.

As we remember when the war ended,

When people cheered in celebration,

We're thankful for the lives saved,

And we weep for the lives lost.

As we silently remember on the eleventh hour,

On the eleventh day of the eleventh month,

We grieve for the fallen soldiers,

And hope they rest in peace forever.
