Even In Death

It was hard to accept it. She was gone, not just for a day. Not even for a week, a month, a year. No, she was gone and she would never ever be back.

She was dead, existed no more.

He could not help but wonder if he could have changed it. Was it really an accident? Something that could not have been avoided. That’s what everybody said.

But they had fought on the very same day that she died. Did she really trip on the cliff path or did she throw herself over? Nobody was there to witness it; nobody could lay his torment to rest.

They loved each other, him and her. The argument had been over something so trivial, but words spoken could never be taken back. No amount of apologies would remove them from existence.

He stood at her graveside, long after the other mourners had left. He stared at the newly dug earth and his tears dripped down, watering it. In some ways it made him feel like a little part of him would remain with her forever, soaking its way in to her coffin.

He loved her, would always love her, even in death.
