Did we abandon everything we once believed in

Or am I forgetting how the past really was?

It seemed to me that the fairness in our nature

Was the product of compassion, not Just Because.

Now it looks as if the shadows overcame us

Though I'd love to think that’s not the tie that binds.

But the shadows move in crocked, selfish, paths

And my wide-eyed hopeful visions, wore blinds.

It is true that I shall never see the outcome,

The goodness in the bad, when all is said and done.

But in death, I can join the stirring stars

And fade into that place where spirits become one.
