It was just another day, in the life of a cute, green parrot, caged in a family’s house. Her every need was looked after – food, water and rest, yet she was still unhappy. In one of the rooms of the house, the prison was suspended nearby a window sill, as she laid inside, like an undiscovered pearl inside an oyster. The prison was placed carefully with calculated distance from the window sill so that beasts of prey would not harm her.

Every morning the window was kept open, and the little parrot could get a glimpse of the outside world. She could see a bit of the blue sky and cottony clouds, migratory birds that flew happily together with their extended families, and pairs of colorful butterflies that danced together in a spiral trail. She wished she was outside to witness the joy herself. She longed and longed for love, but could only heave a big sigh as the sun’s tangerine rays hit the glass every evening.

Day and night passed as she squawked her life away, only to hear the sounds of crows, pigeons and robins, until, one day, she heard a squawk in return. She became excited that, at last, she could hear the voice of someone like her, and slowly a conversation began in the coming days. She could never see her speaker but could only hear his voice. At times, when she didn’t hear from him for days, she got very upset and worried, and waited for him to reply. Once she heard his voice again, she became merry and the conversations continued. Alas, her savior never showed his face, but she could only hear him. She didn’t know what to do and never had the guts to escape her prison home. She was in a dilemma to not leave the ones who fed her, for she valued loyalty, but on the other hand, she wanted to explore the world, and experience all the joys and sorrows just like the other creatures.

In the end, she ended up squawking in the hell hole, and hearing the mesmerizing voice of her unknown companion. She couldn’t decide…she could never decide.

Whether she should fly away to create her independent life? But, what about the kids at the house, who looked forward to see her every day after their school? What if her unknown saviour turned out to be an impersonator? With all these thoughts cramped in her mind, she was stuck, in the middle of the so-called life. How her life ended, is still unknown because her ending is in your head.
