When Fate Found You
Written on: December 22nd 2012
He needed to get this to his editor before the deadline, yet he was still on Chapter 1; he had writer’s block that was it. He looked at the paper and stared at it for what seemed like 3 hours, yet he was just starting to write the story. He had everything planned in his head, yet when he came to writing it on paper; he didn’t know how to put the words together. Looking at the paper one last time, he turned off the lamp and headed into the kitchen. When he walked into the kitchen, he looked at the clock on his stove, “3:15. It feels like 4am, yet I haven’t written a single chapter and the deadlines in 3 days.” Vincent Price said, as he got a cup of coffee. Vincent Price was a world-famous author, he could write books in a heartbeat, but when his editor said he wanted something that Vincent never wrote about, that worried him. “What do you mean, never wrote about?” he asked his editor. “A story about your life.” the editor told him. Ever since then, Vincent was blocked. His life wasn’t that perfect, his mother died when he was just a little boy and his father was always in jail, he had no brothers or sisters, yet he was supposed to write about that. “How could I write about something that I, myself, never had before?” Vincent said, as he sat down in front of his typewriter again and tried to piece together this story that was due in 3 days. “I can’t do this tonight.” Vincent finally said, as he turned off the lamp again and closed the door to his office for the night.
Lila Nicole was sitting in her office contemplating on whether or not to visit her family for the Christmas holiday, when there came a knock on the door. “Come in.” she said, as her best friend, Bridget, walked in. “Are you coming to the Christmas party later on?” she asked. “I don’t think so. I have a bunch of work to get through before the New Year.” Lila lied. She just didn’t want to be bother through the holiday season. Lila was 32 years and she’s never been married, nor does she have kids. “You’re going to do work over the Christmas holiday?” Bridget asked her, as she nodded. “You’re the best attorney in Chicago, yet you want to do more work? You have to get out and have a life, Lila. It’s not healthy to sit in your office all day and work.” Bridget said. “What else is there to do?” Lila said, as she put her papers in her briefcase and went home. When she got home, she had a package, “Probably my brother.” she said, as she looked at the return address. “That’s odd. No return address.” she said, as she opened it up very carefully, because she didn’t want to ruin the golden wrapping. When she opened the gorgeous wrapping paper, a note fell out of it. It was a beautiful stationary, gold and white with calligraphy letters. When Lila was done reading the note, she continued to open the box and there laid the most gorgeous dress she’s ever seen, “Black silk.” she said. She’s never heard of Vincent Price, but this was her moment to find out exactly who he was. The very next night, she put on the dress and waited for the ride that was supposed to pick her up. At 8pm, she was standing in Vincent Price’s foyer waiting, “Mr. Price will be with you momentarily.” the butler said.
10 minutes later, Vincent walked down the stairs and was mesmerized by the way that Lila looked in the dress he’d picked out for her. “Ms. Nicole, how lovely for you to join me.” Vincent Price said, as they entered the dining area. “How are you, Mr. Price?” Lila asked. “Please, call me Vincent.” he replied, as he pulled out her chair to sit down. “Vincent, why did you invite me?” Lila asked. “To get to know you and to ask for a favor.” Vincent replied, sitting down beside her. “What’s the favor?” Lila asked. “My editor wants me to write a story of something I’ve never experienced before and I need your help.” Vincent said. “What’s that?” Lila replied. “My life.” Vincent said, as she looked at him shocked. “How can I help you write a story about your life when I don’t know anything about it?” Lila asked. “Help me figure out what my editor really wants. I haven’t really had a life that I could write about. It’s kind of difficult to write about something that I’ve never had.” Vincent replied.
Lila had to think about this, because she didn’t know anything about his life either and she only writes newspaper articles, this was a story about Vincent Price’s life, she didn’t know what or how to do it. “I will help you, but you have to promise me one thing.” Lila said. “Anything.” Vincent replied. “Promise me you won’t fall in love with me.” Layla said. “That won’t be a problem.” Vincent said, as they finished dinner. Lila was blonde haired, she had blue eyes and wore a black silk dress that fit her almost to perfection and her shoes were heels that were 3 inches. She was beautiful. Vincent was sort of rugged, he had a beard and brown hair and hazel eyes, and he was handsome. As long that Vincent didn’t fall in love with her, she’d help him with his life story, but exactly how was she going to not fall in love with Vincent? That was going to be the hard part, he was more handsome than any guy that she’s ever dated and she couldn’t mess this up, but she wasn’t attracted to Vincent. “I will come back to your house tomorrow afternoon around 2pm.” Lila said. When she got home, she was exhausted. “How could any girl not get mesmerized by Vincent Price? It’s like he sucks all the air out of you by just standing there.” Lila said, as she shook off the thought of it. “It’s my job. Help him with his story and then walk out of his life forever. Easier said than done.” Lila added, as she jumped in the shower. The next morning, she woke up at 7am, “It’s only 7am and yet I’m waking up early. I might as well get up and clean up, because if I don’t do it now, I’ll never get it done.” Lila said, as she got up out of bed and started to clean up her house. She lived in a 2 story house with blue shutters and white and blue furniture, she was happy that she didn’t have any pets; otherwise the furniture would have to be cleaned everyday. Around 11am, she got into the shower and got ready for her day and night at Vincent Price’s house.
At 2pm, she was at Vincent Price’s house, “Time to face the music.” she said, as she got out of the car. “Miss Nicole, how lovely to see you again. Mr. Price will be right with you.” the butler said. 10 minutes later, Vincent Price was standing at the top of the staircase, “How lovely to see you again, Lila.” Vincent said.
“Pleasure, Vincent. Shall we get started?” Lila said, as she followed Vincent in the drawing room. “So, what exactly did your editor tell you have to be in the story?” Lila asked. “My life. Where I was born, my parents, siblings. The whole nine yards.” Vincent replied. “Okay, let’s start with your parents. Where are they?” Lila asked. “My mother passed away when I was just a little boy and my father is always in and out of jail, so he’s not in the picture.” Vincent replied. “Do you have a nickname that you were called when you were little?” Lila asked. “Yes, my friends called me Vinny. You can as well, if you’d like.” Vinny said. “Thank you.” Lila replied. “Do you have any siblings?” Lila asked, as Vinny shook his head. “No, I’m an only child. My mother got sick when I was little, so she couldn’t have anymore children after me.” Vinny explained.4 hours later, Vinny and Lila were halfway done with the story. “It’s very late. I should be getting home.” Lila said, getting up. “Nonsense. You should stay the night, so we can finish this in the morning.” Vinny said. “I couldn’t intrude.” Lila said. “You’re not. I invited you, remember?” Vinny said, as Lila nodded her head. She told Vinny not to fall in love with her, but she’s falling in love with him. How could that happen? A few minutes later, the butler was showing Lila to her room for the night. “Thank you.” Lila replied. “You’re very welcome. If you need anything, call me on this intercom and I’ll personally see to it.” Vinny said. “Sweet dreams.” Lila said. “Sweet dreams, Lila.” Vinny said, as he closed the door to her bedroom.
On the other side of the door, Vinny stood there looking like a complete fool. “Why didn’t you kiss her?” he said quietly, as he headed to his room. Back in Lila’s room, she asked the same question, “Why didn’t you kiss him?” as she headed to the shower in her bathroom. During the night, she kept getting dreams about her and Vinny and she needed to stop them, but for the dreams to stop, she would have to admit she’s in love. The next morning, Vinny was in the kitchen cooking breakfast, “Good morning.” Vinny said, as Lila grunted. “What’s the matter?” Vinny asked. “I had some strange dreams last night and I guess I didn’t sleep very well.” Lila explained. “We can schedule this for tomorrow after you’ve had some sleep.” Vinny said. “Thank you. I’ll be up in a few hours.” Lila said, as she headed back to bed for a couple of more hours. After a few hours of getting some sleep, Lila went downstairs and Vinny was sitting on the lounge outside by the pool, “Hi!” Vinny said. “Hello.” Lila replied. “You forgot your robe, I assume?” Vinny said, as Lila looked down. “I’m sorry.” Lila said. She was only wearing her see through nightgown. “No, don’t be. You look so beautiful in the daylight.” Vinny said, as he got up and held Lila in his arms and kissed her.
“Maybe we should do this again.” Vinny said, as Lila tried to push away. “I’m strictly here for business, not romance.” Lila said, as she walked away. “That’s what you think.” Vinny said, as he sat back down and looked at the pool. Back in Lila’s room, she was steaming mad, because she didn’t want to be in love with Vinny, yet that’s exactly what she is. A few minutes later, Lila was sitting in the living room reading a book, when Vinny came in, “I was wondering where you ran off.” Vinny said, as Lila closed her book.
“I didn’t run anywhere.” Lila said, as Vinny sat beside her. “Why did you push away when I kissed you?” Vinny asked. “Because you asked me to come here to help you write a story about your life, not to become lovers.” Lila explained. “You’ve got me all wrong, Lila. Yes, I want you to become my lover, but I also want this book to get done.” Vinny replied. “So, you’re just using me?” Lila asked. “No! I fell in love with you before I promised you that I wouldn’t, but it’s so hard not to when you’re looking the way you do. I want you to not become my lover…” Vinny started to say. “That’s good.” Lila replied. “…But my wife.” Vinny finished. Lila looked at him like he lost his mind. “Your wife?” Lila asked, as Vinny nodded his head.  “You’ve lost your mind, Vinny. I can’t become your wife.” Lila said. “Why not?” Vinny asked. “I don’t know you well enough to become your wife.” Lila said. “We can get to know each other writing my story. Isn’t that enough?” Vinny asked. “It doesn’t matter if I help you write your story. I still don’t know you.” Lila said. During the time that Vinny and Lila were writing Vinny’s story, Vinny was falling more in love with her and she with him.
One night, they got into a huge argument, “I didn’t want to be here anymore than you want me here! I tried my hardest to not fall in love with you, yet that’s exactly what I did!” Lila screamed, and after she said that, she caught herself. She actually told Vinny that she was in love with him; she didn’t mean to do it, but it came out, now there was no turning back. “You’re in love with me?” Vinny asked. There was no denying it; she was in love with him. “Yes. I tried my hardest not to, but seeing you everyday made it harder not to fall in love.” Lila said, as Vinny walked towards her. “I fell in love with you the moment we met.” Vinny said, as they kissed. Lila looked at Vinny with such hate in her eyes that she imagined this was all a dream, but yet when Vinny pulled her closer to him, it was no dream, they were kissing and it felt amazing! After they kissed, Vinny let go of Lila and looked at her, “Now do you believe that what we have is real?” Vinny asked her. “I can’t believe it, but kissing you felt so right.” Lila said. It was love at first sight for them. They couldn’t deny their feelings for one another, yet they tried with all their might to hide them. Since they couldn’t hide their feelings any longer, they decided to move in with each other and that’s exactly what happened, Lila moved in with Vinny 6 months after dating each other. It was rough moving all of her stuff into his house, but it worked out pretty good.
6 months later
It was 7pm when Lila came home; when she walked into the foyer, she still couldn’t believe that she lived here with Vinny, but she made her way to the living room. There was a candle lighted in the living room and a romantic dinner laid out on the dining room table. “Vinny…” Lila started to say as Vinny made his way towards her. He had that look in his eyes, the look when they met and said they loved each other. “Lila, I’ve missed you.” Vinny said, taking her bags and putting them down so he could wrap her up in his arms and kiss her. “Dinner looks wonderful!” Lila said; as they sat down to eat.
After dinner, Vinny looked at Lila with such passion in his eyes. “Lila, I’ve been meaning to ask you this.” Vinny said, as he got down on one knee. “I’ve given you my heart and my soul. You’ve given me the world. I’ve bought you flowers, lit candlelight and I’m down on bended knee. I love you so much and I don’t want to live without you. Will you marry me?” Lila looked at him with such passion. “I love you, Vinny. Yes, I will marry you.” Lila said, as Vinny got up and put the ring on her finger and kissed her so passionately.
A month later
Sitting in the living room reading a book, Lila walked in to talk to Vinny, “Baby, I’ve been meaning to tell you this for sometime now, but I didn’t know how to bring it up.” Lila said, sitting down. “What’s wrong, sweetheart?” Vinny said, as he put the book down. “I’m pregnant, Vinny.” Lila finally said. Vinny looked at her with shock! “Really?” Vinny asked, as she nodded. Vinny got up and pulled Lila along with him, “I’m so happy!” Vinny said, as he hugged her. “You want kids?” Lila asked, as Vinny nodded. “I’ve always wanted kids. I knew that you were The One for me when you first walked into my life the first minute we met.” Vinny explained to Lila. Lila knew that Vinny was The One for her and she finally found her dream come true. She was a married woman and also had a baby on the way, she couldn’t think of anything else. Everyone that knew Vincent Price knew that he wasn’t the one for commitment; he was the kind of person that only cared for himself and didn’t bother to know anyone else. This was going to shock the entire town of Oak Creek, Michigan. Everyday was getting harder for Lila, because she was getting bigger by the month and soon, she couldn’t do everything that she wanted to do, she had another living being to take care of and she couldn’t go out and feed the horses. She was confined to the bedroom for the last month of the pregnancy.
On December 16th, Lila gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Abigail Victoria Price and she was beautiful. It didn’t take long for the public to hear about the birth of Vincent Price’s first born daughter. They knew about it the minute it was in the paper. He didn’t want his daughter to be captured by the paparazzi, but in this town it was bound to happen sooner or later.
They knew what they got themselves into when Lila first got pregnant, but she didn’t know it was going to be this bad, everywhere they went it was paparazzi, so she just decided to suck it up and get used to it, because believe it or not, Abigail was part of the scene now. It was 5 months later when Abigail was old enough to go outside, so her parents took her to the park for the first time. “She loves the sunshine.” Lila said, sitting down on a blanket with Abigail in her arms. A few minutes later, a couple of elderly ladies stop by, “Are you Vincent Price?” one woman said, as Vinny nodded. “This is my wife, Lila Price.” Vinny said, as Lila waved with one hand and held her daughter with the other. “She is a beautiful baby.” the other woman said. “Thank you.” Lila replied. “Is she your niece?” the woman asked. “No, she’s my daughter, well, our daughter.” Lila said. “I didn’t hear that you got married and had a daughter.” the woman said.
“It was supposed to have been kept a secret until we wanted our daughter to be in the spotlight, but in this town, there’s no such thing as privacy.” Vinny explained, as they said their goodbyes. On the way home, Lila was looking out the window, “What’s wrong?” Vinny asked. “Are you ashamed of marrying me?” Lila asked. “No! Why would you think that?” Vinny asked. “Because you said it was supposed to have been kept a secret.” Lila said. “I wanted it to be kept a secret until I knew you were ready to handle the spotlight. I didn’t want unnecessary drama in your life. For god’s sake! You just had a baby!” Vinny explained. This was going to be a long night, but Lila was determined to find out what was going out with her husband.
That night, Lila put Abigail to bed and headed to their bedroom, “What’s wrong, babe?” Lila asked, as she got into bed one night. “You think I’m ashamed of my family, that’s what’s wrong.” Vinny said. “I don’t think that. I was just asking you why you wanted to keep Abigail and me a secret from everyone.” Lila asked. “I kept it a secret, because I didn’t want my father to find out.” Vinny said. “I thought your father was in and out of jail?” Lila asked, as Vinny shook his head. “He got out of jail last month. I didn’t want him finding out about my life, because he always had something to say about the girls I dated. My last girlfriend he told me was just after my money and I believed him, so I dumped her. I don’t want him saying the same thing about you, that’s why I wanted to keep it a secret until I was ready to tell him. Now that it’s in the papers, he wants to come and see us. I don’t want my father here; I guess I’ll never get rid of my father.” Vinny explained, as he sat down. Lila had no words to say to Vinny, he’s never talked about his father until now, she didn’t know what else to do, so she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him and told him it was going to be alright, she was going to be there for him. The next morning, the phone rang:
“Hello?” Vinny asked
“It’s Frank, sir. There is a man at the gate saying he’s your father.
Do you want me to let him in?” Frank asked.
“Let him in.” Vinny said with a sigh, as he hung up.
“Lila, sweetie?” Vinny said, trying to wake her up. “Hmm?” Lila asked, sleepily. “My father’s here. We have to get dressed.” Vinny said, getting out of bed. “How can I get out of bed with the way you made me feel last night?” Lila asked. “I’ll make you feel like that again tonight, just please get out of bed.” Vinny said, as he kissed her, as Lila got out of bed. A few minutes later, Lila and Vinny were ready to meet Vinny’s father, Lila also went and dressed Abigail, “I don’t want him to meet her just yet. It’s a shock to him that I’m married, he would have a heart attack if he knew that I was a father as well.” Vinny said, as Lila gave Abigail to the nanny. A few minutes later, Vinny’s father walked in, “Father.” Vinny said. “Son, how nice of you to invite me.” Nicholas said. “I didn’t invite you. You invited yourself.” Vinny said. Nicholas was Vinny’s father. He was in and out of jail mostly Vinny’s entire childhood after his wife died.
This was the 1st time in 20 years that Vinny has seen his father. “How are you, son?” Nicholas asked, as they went into the drawing room. “You’ve been staying out of jail?” Vinny asked. “Vincent, I didn’t come back to argue with you. I wanted to meet your lovely wife. I can’t believe that you are married.” Nicholas said. “Yes, well, you’ve seen that I’ve done really well with myself. I have a $2 million house and a beautiful wife.” Vinny said, putting his arms around Lila. “I also read in the magazine that you have a daughter as well.” Nicholas added. Lila looked at Vinny, “We might as well, sweetie, he knows about her now.” Lila said, as Vinny nodded. Lila went to get her daughter so her father-in-law could meet her. “Is she as beautiful as they say?” Nicholas asked, as Lila came back in the drawing room with Abigail in her arms. “Judge for yourself. This is Abigail Victoria Price.” Lila said, as she sat down beside her husband. “May I hold her?” Nicholas asked, as Lila looked at her husband. “You might as well; he’ll never stop asking if we don’t let him.” Vinny said. “She’s as beautiful as you are, Lila.” Nicholas said. While sitting in the drawing room with his father, Vinny was trying his hardest not to kill him for the wrong things he’s done in Vinny’s past. Lila looked at Vinny and didn’t know what was going on in his mind, “Vinny, may I talk to you outside?” Lila asked, as they both got up. “We won’t be long.” Lila said. Outside the drawing room, Lila asked him. “What is going on? Your father is in there being very polite and you’re looking like you want to kill him.” Lila said. “Lila, honey, you don’t know what he’s put my family through. He broke my mother’s heart and destroyed my family. I could never forgive him for that.” Vinny said. “Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” Lila asked. “I don’t like talking about him. He cheated on my mother, that’s why he’s in jail, because when my mother found out, she cursed him out and he chased her with a knife. He was in jail for attempted murder and 2 years later, my mother died because she was so sick. She loved my father and couldn’t stand to see him behind bars.” Vinny explained. “We’ll talk about this later. Right now, he’s in there with our daughter!” Lila said, as she opened the door and nobody was in there! “Where’s your father?” Lila asked, as she looked around the room. “Fuck my father! Where’s my daughter?!” Vinny yelled, as they frantically looked for her. It was going to be a rough day, because Vinny knew about his father‘s past and he wouldn’t let that happen to his only daughter, so he told Lila to call the guards and tell them to lock down the property so nobody could leave!
“Yes, Mr. Price?” the guard asked
“Lock everything down! My father and daughter have disappeared!”“Right away!” The guard said, as he locked the gates.
For an hour, they looked everyone and couldn’t find Nicholas or Abigail! “Where could they have gone?” Lila asked. “I don’t know, but we’re going to find him. That’s why I didn’t want him here; because he knew that I had a daughter.” Vinny said. “How do you know that?” Lila asked. “Lila, there’s something I never told anyone. I was ashamed of it.” Vinny said. “What’s that?” Lila asked, holding his hand.
“My father is a murderer. My mother didn’t die, my father killed her. That’s why I was in a foster home most of my life.” Vinny explained, as Lila got up. “What is wrong with you?! Your father is a murderer and he has our daughter! He’s going to kill her!” Lila screamed. “Baby, he’s not going to kill her. He wants money and he’ll do anything to have it. He kidnapped her for the ransom money.“ Vinny explained. “I want my daughter back, Vinny! Don’t you understand that?!” Lila said, as she ran upstairs. Vinny knew that he completely screwed up when he told Lila that his father was a murderer. Vinny ran upstairs after Lila and knocked on the bedroom door, “Lila, sweetie?” Vinny asked, as he heard something hit the floor. “AHHHHHH!” Lila screamed, as Vinny broke through the door. “Let her go!” Vinny yelled. “You really think that I would let your wife go after I killed your daughter? You knew what I was before you let me into your house.” Nicholas said to Vinny. “You actually killed my daughter?” Vinny asked. “Yea, I did. The blood of that baby girl running down my arm.” Nicholas said. “Nicholas, you forgot one thing that I kept in this room.” Vinny said, hiding the gun behind his back. “What’s that?” Nicholas replied. “A gun!” Vinny said, aiming at his father and shooting him out of the window. After he shot his father, he looked out the window and there was his father, blood coming out of him, dead on the ground. While looking at his father, he noticed something white on the ground, it was his daughter! “Abigail!” Vinny said, as he put Lila in bed and rushed outside. When he got to where his daughter was, Vinny could see the blood coming out of Abigail’s head, she was gone! “My fucking father! I’m glad he’s dead!” Vinny said, as he cradled his daughter in his arms as he heard sirens. When the cops and ambulance came, they carried Nicholas’ dead body in the coroner’s car and carried Abigail’s body in there as well. He couldn’t believe that his daughter was gone! Damn his father! He finally got what he deserved though, but how was he going to explain this to his wife? They both loved Abigail with every fiber of their being.
After the cops and coroner left, Vinny made his way to the bedroom, “Vinny, is that you?” Lila asked. “Yea, it’s me.” Vinny said, as he sat down on the bed. “Did they find Abigail?” Lila asked, as he nodded. “I found her. I don’t know how to tell you this, but, Abigail’s dead.” Vinny said, as his wife cried and threw the lamp across the room. “You’re lying to me! My daughter’s not dead!” Lila yelled. “Yes, she is. After I shot my father out of the window, she was lying on the ground beside him. He shot her in the head.” Vinny explained to his wife. By then, Lila was crying uncontrollably, so Vinny knew to leave her alone, because when she was like this, there was no stopping her anger. When he closed the door to the bedroom, he told the maid. “Don’t go in there. She’s very upset, also let the staff know not to enter this room.” as the maid nodded and went to inform the staff like she instructed to. It was going to be a hard life, because Abigail meant everything to them. The murder was in the paper and there was no way to avoid it. Vinny’s father was dead and also his daughter. It was 2 years later, when Lila and Vinny decided to have another child, he was the first born son and everyone was very happy, but they could never replace Abigail and they were never going to try. They have a plaque for her, this is what it says:

Abigail Victoria Price
Our beautiful heavenly angel
May she rest in peace

When Vincent Jr. was 7 years old, he asked about the plaque and his father told him, “That is your sister. She was killed by your grandfather.” Vincent replied. “Why did grandfather kill my sister?” Vincent Jr. asked. “I don’t know, son, but I made sure that Abigail didn’t die in vain. When I found out that grandfather killed her, I shot him through the bedroom window and he was gone.” Vinny replied to his son. A few minutes later, Lila came walking through the door, “Son, the bus will be here any moment.” Lila said, as Vincent Jr. told his parents goodbye and he loved them. When he got on the bus, Lila looked at Vinny, “Why did you tell him about your father?” Lila asked. “He asked about the plaque and I told him the story. He needed to know that his grandfather was a miserable man and couldn’t love anyone but himself.” Vinny said, as they headed back to the house. Vinny and his family don’t live in the same house they used to live in, they moved into a smaller house, because the other house had too many memories and Abigail was killed there, Lila didn’t want to stay in the house that her daughter was killed in, so they decided to move to a smaller house in another state. It was the life they were meant to live and raise their family in, but every birthday they had a cake for Abigail and missed her dearly, but at least Vinny’s father got what he deserved. He was in Hell while Abigail was in Heaven watching over her family and joined with her grandmother, and Vinny’s mother was proud of him for finally getting revenge for her death, marrying Lila and conceiving a beautiful baby girl and handsome baby boy.
