Hiding In Plain Sight

The tide is turning, hang on to your ass,

crude, fearful, and moronic have replaced class.

Swept out to sea on a wave of bad tidings,

on this wave of backwards we're riding.

Some of us aren't even aware of the dangers,

pushed out to sea by closed-eyed strangers

who view the world as something to fear,

who laugh and ridicule things we used to hold dear.

Lemmings to the cliff-side, lambs to the slaughter,

harder and harder to keep our heads above water.

Shouting in a hurricane to let the villager's know,

only the shrieking wind answers as the pillager's sow

their unprecedented, unwarranted, unreasoned destruction,

their toppling of the pillars of our careful construction.

Shadows play among the crimson of the setting sun,

our hazy vision can't see all that's been undone

Soon we'll dance among the ruins of long-ago dreams,

and long for the silence to drown out our screams
