What’s true love a young man asked

As he took shelter from a winters blast

You’ll know because it’ll haunt you till the day you die

Just as sure as there’s a sun up in the sky.

You’ve got to keep it when you have it though

But should your mistake be to let it go

You’ll feel as if you were pierced by a sword

That slices your heart to pieces where the soul is stored.

Oh time won’t stand still for true love

When it flies away like a lone dove

That precious jewel lost forever more

Now but a memory that drills to the core.

This true love is the one that you’ll never forget

It waits for you in those dreams still yet

The day one and the night one for year upon year

The wrong one the right one is better than here.

For here is reality in a world all alone

Knowing you let them go and some heart turned to stone

But yours, yes yours, was pierced by the sword

That sliced a heart to pieces where the soul was stored.

And time won’t stand still for true love

When it flies away like a lone dove

That precious jewel lost forever more

Now but a memory that drills to the core.

So, that’s true love a young man said

As he took shelter in a winter shed

The ghost that haunts him, he now knows why

Just as sure as there’s a sun up in the sky.
