HRO-PTA G12-ELECTRA Community Outreach and

Income Generating Project in Brgy. 26, Gingoog City

The PTA Officers and students of Grade 12- ELECTRA of the Senior High School Program of Gingoog City Comprehensive National High School under STEM Strand had conducted a community outreach in Barangay 26, Gingoog City on April 18, 2018. This activity aimed to initiate the establishment of a small-scale nursery of Falcata seedlings. This will serve as an income generating project of the “Solo Parents” group of the barangay. Aside from hundreds of viable seedlings to be transplanted, an ample amount of seeds and cash money were also  given to sustain the said project. The proceeds of the project will serve as revolving funds of the “Solo Parents” group to facilitate their programs and activities.

This kind of community outreach is one of a kind because it entails not only  giving service through cleaning  but at the same time gives opportunity to certain entity in the barangay like the “Solo parent” to generate income/funds by growing falcata seedlings and selling them in the future. Similarly, the activity also provides learning experience to our students to extend meaningful service as they grow by giving back to their community. This also promotes the greening program of the government by propagating more plants in order to support the life and functions of our environment.

The activity started at 8:00 0’ clock in the morning at Laudiño’s residence where the nursery was temporarily situated. Mr. Francis Laudiño, being one of the Barangay Kagawad and chairman of the Committee on Agriculture graciously offered a space for the nursery. A short program was hosted by Rauline Christine Mabilen which was formally opened through a song invocation by Grade 12 Electra students. It was followed by some words of welcome by  Mr. Francis Laudiño. With warmth greetings, he gladly welcomed everyone, especially the parents for coming. Hazel R. Balan, the class adviser gave the statement of the purpose. She emphasized that the said activity was conceptualized last November of 2017 and because of the busy schedule it was not realized during school days. She was very grateful because even the students have already graduated and ready to leave their Alma mater, GCCNHS yet, the spirit of fellowship and commitment have paved for the realization of the activity. Hon. Dolly Arot, the barangay Captain gave her inspirational message. She highlighted that the said project is very timely since falcata planting has become the newest mode of most people in the locality in raising money. It is also of great help to the solo parents in the community to have some source of income/funds. She challenged all solo parents in attendance to actively sustain the project and encouraged each other to  be a good stewards of the blessings shared by the PTA as well as the students. She thanked everyone for choosing Brgy. 26 to be the recipient of the project. Mrs. Sol F. Omangpang, the HRO-PTA president also gave her message. She put emphasis on the unity and collaborative efforts of G12 Electra parents and students that made the activity successful.

There were 22 students who participated in the activity which constitute 53 % of the class, 9 parents, 5 solo parents and 3 Baranngay officials.

About 330 viable seedlings were transplanted to a bigger polyethylene bag/poly bags by the students, parents, solo parents’ group and even some Kagawad in the Barangay. The cool ambience and green surrounding had made everyone so excited and motivated. The spirit of cooperation and camaraderie was felt as laughters and stories were happily shared. The activity ended with a fellowship snacks.

Indeed, the activity was very productive, significant and a success.

Lastly, in behalf of the PTA and students of Grade 12 Electra, a big thanks and appreciation to the Principal of GCCNHS, Dr. Idjya D. Yder and Assisting Principal, Dr. Susan T. Aparejo for the approval and support given to this activity/project. It is hoped that more blessings will come to have more activities and projects in the coming years.
