She wakes to another morning dragged across the blood red sky

She stands in the mirror to inspect her always bloodshot eyes.

A tear escapes her at the sight

Bowing her head on bruised and blackened knees

She prays to the God that blessed her with her fight.

She counts her blessings one by one

A  heart to beat

Two tiny little feet

A tongue to speak up

And a head to hold up

Rising from her knees

She opens a split mouth and whispers to herself

“ You stole the bliss from my bones

The love from my arms

The kindness from my tongue

And the magic from my home

But from this I will climb and I will build and I will rise

I am blind ambition

Fiery and focussed

Born with a gold star on my forehead

I am the ruthless conqueror of my dreams

I will not let you tear me at my seams.”
