She was the first girl to bring me moonlight

in a mason jar.

At first,

I thought it held fireflies

Like the ones bouncing off the walls of my stomach when she smiles.

I keep my mouth closed like a tin lid so that

They won’t fly out.

Sometimes I begin to unscrew the top

but stop because I don’t know

If she would be blinded by their blinking.

She comes to school with bug bites on her unshaved legs

And i wonder if the bugs that bit her

Appreciated the taste.

Sometimes I feel like a mosquito stuck in the

hydrangea scented web her perfume has spun.

I wonder if she meant to catch a mosquito like me

or if she would rather devour less invasive things

like mag flies.
