A sudden flash, like an invisible something

out of the corner of my eye, was it real?

I swore it was an hour passing by, on it's way to past.

Another sudden flash, this time it looked like a day.

There goes another, I get impression of a week,

callous, indifferent, and smirking as it passes, almost

like a runaway train, and life has tied me to the tracks,

and as I wait, trembling, a month bares down, waving

hello/goodbye. Here comes a year, barreling right behind,

Then decade after decade pass by the corner of my eye,

then are gone, where they really there at all,

or were they just a trick of the light?
