Curved Lines

Van Goot the art student was expelled recently from Sydney

Art College for mounting his drawings on curved collaged

cardboard, in preparation for his annual assessment. The student

said he was sorry and had meant no offence. He said he was in

awe of the heavens, and this was the reason he'd collaged

photographs of stars and galaxies. He admitted he had wrongly

assumed that others were inspired by the cosmos, and shouldn't have

mounted his drawings in this manner.

Van Goot continued that he had also wrongly considered curved

lines to be more interesting than straight lines when he had

submitted his work to his teacher, who had been wearing

a kilt at the time. She had screamed, " You can't do that! " and

he had replied, " But I have. "

Van Goot now knew it was a terrible mistake, and said again

that he was sorry if he had offended his teacher and the college.

He tried to explain that he had stupidly thought the college was a

place of creativity, but now knew better, and realised it had strict

guidelines to follow. He promised the authorities that he was

finished with art, and would pursue a clerical career in the Public
