INT. BEDROOM.  DAY 1 - 2.30AM
The room seems empty; there is just the sound of a ticking clock.

Panning around the room we see the legs of someone who has hanged themself.

We pan down to see a strange leather bound book on the bedside table next to the clock.

A hand from off screen reaches in and takes the book.

INT. PUB 1.  DAY 1 - 12.30PM

A sinister looking man is sitting at a table with the book in front of him. He quietly closes it and puts it on the table.

Taking one last swig of his drink and stands up and leaves. The book is still on the table.

A young woman sitting alone at the next table notices and walks over to pick it up. She looks to the door where the man went, then opens it and looks inside.

As she looks she is at first surprised, then troubled. She quickly flips ahead a few pages and with a look of shock slams the book closed.

WOMAN (V.O.)

Excuse me!
The woman walks briskly up to the man and confronts him with the book

WOMAN

What’s the meaning of this?

MAN

The meaning of what?

WOMAN

This book; if you're thinking of blackmailing me; forget it.

MAN

It is nothing like that. I left you that book as a gift.

WOMAN

I don't want it.

MAN

Have you read it all?

WOMAN

Of course I haven't; but just a quick glance at the first few pages were enough. It has my life written in it. Well you can just keep it; I have nothing to hide.

MAN

We all have something to hide but the book won’t tell me.

The man shows her the pages of the book; they are blank.

MAN

The pages are for you alone to read.

WOMAN

Then why? For what purpose?

MAN

You read only the beginning, which tells only your past. If you read on it will tell you your future.

WOMAN

My future?

MAN

It is a special book just for you; it will tell you your entire life from cradle to grave.

The Woman thinks about it and then thrusts the book back at the man, who takes it back from her.

WOMAN

You can keep it. I want my life to be an adventure; each day I want to learn more and grow as a person not follow some pre-ordained plan.

MAN

But wouldn’t it comfort you to know how your life will go?

WOMAN

I think that would be enough to kill a person from the inside out. No; you keep the book and I will wait for my life to unfold as nature intended.

MAN

Very well.

As the woman walks quickly away; the man turns towards the camera.

MAN

with evil smile

You can’t win them all.

The man walks toward the camera until he blocks everything out.
