The virus has spread. Everyone’s been infected. You sit there, silent, unable to do anything. Everyone has been trying to find a cure for years but hope has been lost. They have given into the idea that there will be no life left once the virus has eradicated humanity.

You feel helpless.

You’re tired.

You just want to sleep.

For everything to be over.

You start to close your eyes but someone jolts you awake. You stare at the bodies before. Everyone is looking at you. You’re confused and you don’t understand why. You’re unimportant. You should be allowed to die in peace.

Someone stands you up and ushers you through the crowd.

You don’t like being roughed up like this.

Tears come to your eyes.

Are you going to die?

Why are they dragging you to the steps at the edge of the city?

“Are you happy now?”

You’re confused. Why does your happiness matter?

“We’re all infected.”

You don’t know how to answer this.

You don’t recognize the faces in the crowd.

Your friends and family died long time ago.

Heck, even your dog kicked the bucket before you.

You look at the face beside you.

It’s old and worn out.

But there is death in those eyes.

He points to everything around you.

And then back you.

“You can’t die before the rest of us. You’re the reason we’re infected.”
