Poem by: JE Falcon
He became an oppressor in a benevolent mask
Then the people rose up to take him to task.
They threw the bum out
But without a doubt
They'll elect another who is worse than the last.

Hopefully he's as bad as it gets for a few terms, but who knows. Honour, trustworthiness and nobility have become obsolete terms, almost archaic words that describe fictional characters from fantastical stories. There's no room for decent people in politics anymore. The big corporations have seen to that. Money can buy anything when dealing with a bunch of greedy, small-minded people.
T's true. --- If you look at it closely you might find that many people don't follow until they find someone that is saying what they want to believe. We would like to think that this applies to today, and it does, but this flaw, this self blindness, in human nature has always been with us. --- Examples: France freed themselves right into the hands of the war monger Napoleon, Russians tossed out the Czars and ended up with the butcher,Stalin, Italy got Mussolini, Germany took a double whammy and finally learned their lesson with Hitler. Then came what they call communism, but in all it's forms it is just dictatorship.
Is it possible to get worse? I guess, if they really, really try.
To be fair, Stalin unjustly claimed his position. Lenin once said Stalin should not become the leader of Russia and he wasn't really being considered as a candidate; he did what he did throughout his entire career, he killed and talked his way to where he wanted to be, hiding the bodies as he went.
But I do agree with you. When a country becomes frustrated with their leaders or disenfranchised with the way things are going, they'll cling to the candidate who tells them exactly what they want to hear - the one who tells them they'll make their country strong again - they clamour for that "true" leader, and that person always turns out to be a dictator.
Hopefully a lesson will be learned when election season comes around again. But the ease in which people can feign ignorance and justify barbarity these days is alarmingly easy and common.
