Barry Trotz, (above), announced his resignation as Capital's head coach
Barry Trotz is no longer the head coach of the Washington Capitals.
He announced his resignation earlier today.
"When I came to Washington four years ago, we had one goal in mind and that was to bring the Stanley Cup to the nation's (U.S.) capital," said Trotz.
That's just what the team did.
The Capitals won the Stanley Cup Finals in five games against the Vegas Golden Knights a few weeks ago.
There is, however, some discrepancy about the status of Trotz's contract with Washington.
It was first reported that his contract ended after this season
????????Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, however, reported today that the same contract had a two year extension if Trotz won the cup.
Under Trotz, Washington was 205-89-34.
