I awoke one night,

To find him sitting,

At the foot of my bed.

Though ''twas dark,

His eyes shone bright.

Across his face,

A smile was spread.

For a moment,

We sat in silence,

Merely staring,

Before he took a breath and said.

I'm sorry to arrive,

So late at night,

And apologies if

I filled you with dread.

I sat still,

And looked upon the figure,

No fear did I feel,

But merely happiness instead,

I'm afraid,

I can't go right now my friend,

But we'll meet once more,

Before the end.

He stood up and smiled,

You have work I know,

But just one thing,

Before I go,

Please live your life,

For I will return,

And the flames of hell,

Do not nearly burn,

As badly,

As a life passed by,

Merely sat around,

Waiting to die,

So write my friend,

And spill your soul,

Through pen and paper,

And pay your toll.

I smiled

And nodded

And wished him farewell,

We’ll meet once more my friend,

In heaven or hell.
