It was a warm summer evening,

The sound of the waves,

Normally so beautiful to me,

Crashed and thundered,

Each wave breaking my heart.

As he cupped my face

With his calloused and cut hands,

Soft as silk,

He kissed me goodbye.

I could not watch the boat leave,

Yet collapsed on the sand,

And wept,

My tears swirling in the wind,

To mix with the sea.

Each day I return,

To watch the waves

And wish my husband home.

And when I'm old and grey,

I will return,

To wish my husband home.

And when, beneath the earth I lie,

I will return,

To kiss my husband home.
