“Rhetorical Question”

She wasn’t really

in the mood

for an answer

to her rhetorical

question

why he didn’t

show up as

promised,

it didn’t really

matter

in her mind

any more

so tired of

getting lost

behind

some unplanned

event

he didn’t care to

get out of

one more thing

he put before her,

she no longer had

the energy

to fight for

his attention

watching it

slip away

from the sidelines

now

a spectator

to her own

dying relationship

somedays wishing

she’d catch him

cheating on her

give her the

reason

to walk out that

front door,

but she knew

that he wasn’t

he was happy

to hold on to

the remnants

of what they

once had

losing himself

in outside activities

to fill up his

time,

her only real

role

she felt

was to balance

out the room

a useless tool

he kept around

more afraid of

an empty space

in his life

then trying to

find

something that

really works for

him

to use in place

of her,

she wasn’t much

better

maybe even worse

she thought

if you want

to compare their

stats

but she didn’t

she knew that

she carried a

share

of the blame

also

no need to

analyze it

to find out

how much,

she looks down

at her reheated

dinner

pushes the peas

away

from her mash

potatoes

separating

two foods

that were never

meant to be

together,

he flicks on

the television

cuts away the

fat

from his very

rare

roast beef

before picking

back up the

remote

and switching to

the “Bachelor”

one of the

few things

they still did

together,

things could be

worse

she figures

she could be

living with a

guy

that doesn’t like

any of her

shows…
