I watched the video of Paul McCartney with James Cordon, and I thought about what it must be like for him to be so famous and I wrote this song, filtered through cynical:

500 Days—'Alone In A Crowd'

Verse:

We all long to be famous, the star of the show,

getting adulation, admiration, and a ton of dough

But you can't live with the freedom to choose,

You gain fame, but there's so much to lose

Pre-Chorus:

Are you willing to pay such a price?

In the end, will all that fame suffice?

Verse:

Man on an island, no sight of the shore,

left wondering 'what is fame for?'

Was the price worth it in the end?

Are all these strangers really your friend?

Repeat Pre-Chorus:

Chorus:

Surrounded by people, but alone in a crowd,

lost yourself, no personal space or time allowed

Alone in a crowd, you say all the right things,

a puppet who plays a part to their pull of the strings

Verse:

Happy smiles for the cheering hoards,

to show the real you I cannot afford

Everywhere you go you're never alone,

personal buried in a garden of stone

Repeat Pre-Chorus:

Repeat Chorus:

END
