Follow that dark hollow;
That timeless void
Deeper than a dungeon
Where murky waters churn.
Above creepy corpses,
Swims that ancient clock-smith;
That vicious snake
Disturbs your slumber;
Doubles your fear.
Ghosts.
Bullies.
Regrets.
Failures.
Births drown in a pool of deaths
Trade sighs for screams.
Games for guns.
Tweets for troubles.
Vanities at dawn tarnish at dusk.
Dollars and diamonds and daily routines
Float in battlefields of truth.
Greed no mansion surrenders.
No shack seeks.
No world survives those bones of yesteryears
Unless bridges heal.
Leaders hug.
Lovers dance on sunken ships
And sprout their toothy grins.
While hi-fives breach moonlit depths,
Voices from the sea
Beg young and old,
“Find your boat.
Set your sail.”
Paddle fast and fierce.
Wild and free.
Rage those waves.
Their ghoulish fingers
Knock you overboard.
Climb back in;
Wet and weary,
Soldier the storm
Before that clock-smith strikes.
One moment
Or another,
Follow that dark hollow.

Tue, June 26th, 2018 6:23pmA powerful poem. All the troubles that can pull us under are here, but so is a boat, of hope, I guess. One that might allow us to struggle on without drowning. Your words paint many different pictures in this until the final one, of weary and wet, hauled back into the boat and sailing once again. Excellent work, Joy.
Tue, June 26th, 2018 8:39pmA powerful write, you capture the feelings of overwhelming despair. Exactly how it feels to be in a living nightmare, but it does end on a hopeful note, which I like because there is always light at the end of the tunnel. Well done!
