Only Human

Poem by: Melancholic Wisdom
I wanna live forever, I don’t wanna die,
It’s the monster in the closet, that never goes away.
You and I, we’re so alike, afraid of the same thing,
It can’t be stopped, it can only be delayed.
Father Time remains undefeated, a perfect season
19-0, capped off with the Lombardi trophy.
You and I, we’re so fragile, and our time so short,
We all have to face, our permanent deletion.
Tell me, do you feel uncomfortable yet? That’s
The feeling of your mind, processing your mortality.
A shiver up your spine, a ticking clock echoes in the distance,
Dark storm clouds, are beginning to cover your thoughts.
From the first breath, you start the decaying process,
As soon as you’re named, your death certificate is signed.
Better work fast, make sure that you live with no regrets,
Cause everyone, has to one day face, their final sunset.

Loved this death! Good Poem!
It should've read loved to death!
Ok, MW, this was an unusual one for you. True, that from when we are born, we're already dying, but mortality, or death does not bother me. I'd hate to live forever. The problem is that as much as I can feel that way for myself, I would still mourn the loss of others.
It's a little unusual, but I thought it was too good of an idea to ignore. I've straddled the line of wanting to die and never wanting to die, my views/feelings on the topic flip flop. But, in general, it's a reflection of your own morality, which is a bit of an uncomfortable topic to think about.
In the same vein, it's also a type of grounding mechanism when you realize that everyone is only human, and afraid of the very same thing that you are, and they're going to end up in the same place that you will. Plus, it can serve as an encouragement to live as best as you can.
Thanks for reading, always lovely to see your comments :)
Impressive work, my friend! Very well done.
