A disturbing trend, one I myself can understand,

is on display in our fractured, angry land.

Unsocial media has sadly become the place

that reflects right or wrong beliefs on our scowling face.

It amplifies things, distorts thing, we don't know if true

without investigation, the bane of the red and the blue

I myself can't plead perfection or pass the blame,

there's no asterisk of 'not me' next to my name.

I understand the need to feel we're among friends,

I'm just saying we should be careful what messages we send.

Civility recedes in the rear view mirror, anonymity makes us bold,

we must resist the temptation to take to heart everything we're told

that backs up what we already are so ready and willing to believe.

Because as Russia has proven, we're so easy to deceive
