The pillowcase and bed sheets

smell of you;

afraid if I wash them that I’ll forever miss you -

miss resting my head upon your chest

as I listened to your heart beat

You were so alive when you laid with me;

Holding me close

your body so warm

against my cold bones

Now a lump forms in my throat as I write these words down

I just want to cry out

But instead I rip off the sheets

and pillowcase, too

washing away the feelings

I had for you
