Whispering secrets in the dark under the impression that no one can hear you..

You know if any ever did, you would be forever undone.

You worry of how your hidden world could be exposed

and turned into a lie so great,

it could never find the solace of truth ever again.

The darkness is your friend in its cold, shadowed, empty void.

The only thing you know to be real.

One night, the dark whispers back.

It tells of its sorrows and joys,

and its dependence on your softly spoken words

to bring it back at the setting of every blinding sun.

The light brings the secrets out to be burned. But these sweet secrets,

these waves of sadness,

you need them.

The warm memories that they cradle inside of themselves are your very breath.

So you stay in the fleeting shadows,

fighting off the break of day with the promises of the moon.

Chasing the night in a never ending frenzy,

always just a single mis-step away from agony.

Here in the dark,

where it is safe among the secrets and dreams,

that is where I still hold you;

just outside of reality where they would take you from me if they knew.
