don’t tell me you are
sorry to hear it.
tell me you are
devastated it happened.
tell me that the prettiest flowers
are left on tombstones.
tell me that i have aged
enough to engulf the sun.
tell me that glue was made
from horses.
ask me what i am willing
to melt down to stick myself
together again.
don’t you dare tell me
you are sorry you know
my experience.
tell me your shoes would
wear through their soles
before you could walk in mine.
tell me that you have seen houses
built from crumbling stone.
tell me that you have seen
green fingers under silver rings.
tell me that all mirrors end up as dust.
ask me how i see myself when
i am at my dirtiest.
don’t you dare tell me that
you are sorry that you understand
what i am trying to explain to you -
tell me strength comes from muscles
and that my heart has pumped
enough iron to eradicate anemia.
