Off Broadway

There was a time when I followed that tall man. The pilot and the engineer. Like the ones before him, I put him on a pedestal. I flattered his ego and massaged his insecurities. I used my writing skills to design a script that would fill in the blanks; which were many. I used adjectives to soften the character and lighting to distract from his scars.

I acted my part. Trying to be the obedient wife and attentive mother. He stopped acting and became the antagonist. The lighting could not hide the anger in his expression. The scripted words could not compensate for the vile tone of his speech. The set design changed a few times; but the sound quality was always poor.

As soon as the second act approached, I was able to locate the exit signs. I carried my son and my story with me. I left the actor to recreate his scenes with another. Once again, I changed the location and design of the stage. I chose to become a method actor; perfecting the roles of mother and teacher. The ending is not yet written; the story remains a work in progress.
