Dancing flames

Red flower

So many names

For a glowing ember.

Death;

A field of smoke

That steals your breath

And makes you choke.

Ash;

Burning and scorching all

Only with water does it clash,

For then it meets its downfall.

Pain;

Sharp and sizzling,

Destruction’s sparking reign;

All hail to the king.

But there is more to fire than that—

Something overlooked and pushed aside

Something that goes back to those

Who learned to make this primeval force

Little more than their slave

Light;

Illumination,

Bright,

Chasing the echoes of a darkness

We have forever feared

Heat;

Melting winter’s icy grip

And cooks the food we eat—

Existing still, in different form

Everything that is perceived

Is little more than a subjective view;

The meaning is that which we conceive,

A meaning that is not always true.
