Every man came from a woman and owes every part of his existence to her hips
Every word he speaks belongs partially to her lips
Since the beginning of time women have been conformed and deformed
Feet bound, corsets worn, skin bleached and skin tanned I’m torn
Faces painted and hair straightened with jewels around our necks adorned
Bodies named and labeled and shamed
For our innocence I mourn
I’m torn to call myself a feminist because I know that actually means gender equality
But since men have been in charge all I’ve seen is endless misogyny
This is not an apology
I can guarantee that
Bigger boobs and bigger butts but your stomach is a little too fat
Your eyes are pretty but they’d be better shaped like a cat
Beautiful little girls skipping meals and taking pills to become what he will prefer
Surgeries and diets and 6 inch heels just hoping someone will love her
Not long ago women were legally considered the property of our father
Passed out of daddy’s hands into the ownership of a husbands demands
Bartered and traded like cattle required to say I do
Men know we are valuable goods and thats the only part that is true
Daughters who become wives who become mothers lost in time
For their redemption and justice the reason I write this rhyme
For the women who were abused and misused and tried to refuse
This poem is dedicated to you
The definition of Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another
Women are one of the most empathetic and forgiving creatures on this planet
Empathy is the most beautiful and the most disgusting disease to have
And I am guilty
I am self diagnosed
I have multiple gold medals in caring about people who don’t care one bit about me
Empathy
How far would you go before you wake up?
Empathy I’ve had enough
I am not a playground
I am a person.
