They say it takes more than a few weeks to really fall in  love…

But-

When I first partook of your forbidden fruit

It was under the impression I had previously

Dived into the deep blue waters

That disguised hell so methodically.

They say it takes more than a few weeks to really fall in love…

But-

Your thick gray taste lingers

On my unforgiving tongue

Leaving me not only breathless

But lusting after more than your sweet scent.

They say it takes more than a few weeks to fall in love…

But-

I found it easy prioritizing you

Before anything else

School, work, everyday house chores

I began keeping you cleaner than myself.

They say it takes more than a few weeks to fall in love…

But-

I beg to differ.

Because without you:

I freeze for hours,

My mind clutters with unnecessary thoughts,

Body aching with every movement,

I tire after the simplest of tasks-

The mirror mocks this love I have for you.

As when I go without I start to see my imperfections

Reappear right before my very eyes.

They say it takes more than a few weeks to fall in love…

But-

You are the exception.

As I get down on one knee,

I propose to you this lighter’s flame-

And you accept this form of commitment

by welcoming yourself into my lungs.

Filling me with your undoubtful love.
