This is a poem about a college experience. I was at a fall retreat with the campus ministry. I wanted to capture this moment where I felt like my relationships with others and with God was
deepening. It was my first time being away from home for so long. I wanted to meet new friends. And though we come from different places, I chose that home would be wherever my friends and I would
meet.

Canoes float on silent river

The marsh and heat fill our lungs

Silence is all we could breathe

Though praise was on our tongues

Around the fire, under the stars

Like hot flames

Songs erupt in polyphony

As gentle as sea waves

The river meets freshwater sea

And we meet each other

The sun warms the freezing body

Shivering we dance as seagulls flutter

Then we leave home

On muddy road full of potholes

Where we are and where

Our rivers meet is home
