I stood in the room, a swarm of strangers swirling around me. I look for a familiar face, but only find strangers, each engrossed in their own conversations, voices seeming to roar as I see no one. Alone, truly, alone in a crowd. A familiar voice catches my ears making me turn to catch it. A laugh carried over the words. I finally spot him, the one who I knew as a safe point, the family that I found, the one who always saved me. I ran to him, lucky to see that he had spotted me too as I called out, desperate to get to him. Getting to his side I stop, never sure the timing but give up and embrace him. Being there was where I belonged, the roar of the room almost ties away as I tuck my face close without the intent to let go anytime soon. I manage to say for only his ears that I needed him, but he gave no answer. I let go of him and he kept a single hand on my shoulder and simply smiled. I looked into his eyes for something, anything, but he gave me no sign of what to do next. I never knew what to do next, and he was always there to help me, but at this moment the room fell silent and he gave nothing away, he only smiled and squeezed my shoulder before turning away and leaving me in the room of strangers, every step he took left me stranded. The sound of the room crashed upon me as reality broke through. I tried to run after him, calling out his name, but he never stopped, never looked back. I waded through the crowd to see him stop at the door and turn, somehow spotting me. He smiled and winked before leaving me alone to find my own way. I stood there watching where he had been standing only moments before. Why nothing this time? Why couldn't he help me after all of our time together? I followed on the path that he cleared for me, making my way to the exit. He had shown me the way out, and that has to be my take away. He gave me a path, now I have to follow it.
