Forgive and Forget

Forgiveness is much like a snake,
giving you its venom
to watch the decision you'll make.
Will you tend to your wound
or will you track it down out of hate?
And what if that decision
was your greatest mistake --
Would you blame it on fate?
Would you hold it responsible
for every other choice that you'd make,
just for the sake of lifting that weight
off your shoulders
because it's too heavy of a burden to take
on the back that it breaks.
And how would the snake ever really know
you were feeling this way,
if you didn't try to justify
or explain all of your pain
that you're in
and the grief that it has caused you.
There's a sense of relief that it draws
when you pause under the belief --
that even a snake can make mistakes.
