Within my silence lies secrets

begging to be shared,

but scared of the demons

which rope and tie me to a chair.

I'm held hostage, I'm not proud to say,

and I'm forced to confront them,

these demons,

and hold them at bay.

They are strong and they strike,

huff up some laughter, and give me a bite

or two, or three,

and I can only fight with what I know:

to push myself from my comfort zone.

That's not as easy as it seems,

or as everyone says

because where you are comfortable

is where you lay your head.

But I push myself for my sake,

for their sake

for your sake

to fight these demons, these snakes.

Within my silence lies secrets

I must share

and no longer am I scared of those demons

who tied me to that chair.
