The bee

Why am I a human

Why aren't I a bee

A fish in a brook

Or a leaf on a tree

How did our brains

Create the concept of "me"

I don't think I'd have it

If I was that bee

Bees work together

The whole colony

Collecting pollen

Instinctually

Why? What's the point?

Why bother to exist?

I guess these aren't thoughts

Their brains can twist

that's the difference

Between man and bee

They don't ask why

They lack the capability

Maybe we exist

To ponder the bees

The brook, the fish, the flowers

The galaxies

They say intelligent life

Arose with some help

That consciousness wanted

To look back at itself

If that is true

Does it mean that we're

Nothing more

Than a reflection in a mirror?

As I sit here and ponder

The life of the bee

I've begun to realize

That the bee is me
