I Can’t Love You

umm…
I don’t know how to tell you this,
but I will never be the person you need me to be.

I keep my earphones in with the music as loud as it can go
because sometimes the presence of people who aren’t really here
is better than the presence of people who are.
You cannot love me if I’m sunken into a bassline
deep enough for me to hide behind.
I am untouchable in a state of confusion,
lost -  mixing life with dream with soul with song.
You cannot love me if I am occupied by radiating thought
brought forward by syllabic scripture I worship exclusively.
I am unbothered by grief, realizing my love cannot touch another human,
only a song. I am swimming in the oceans of solitude. I think you
misunderstood.
