Sometimes it's the quiet unknown in the dark that gets us.

The ligtht can only go where there is dark,

Survival elsewhere is grim and stark,

Shadows surround the light's glow,

Things in the black refuse to show,

Eagerly the dark chooses to feast,

Consuming all from king to priest,

Nothing can escape the black,

We can't see front or back,

It's just too much to bear,

Stuck in shadow's lair,

So tremble the brave,

As their minds spin and they rave,

Imagining monsters in the unkonwn,

Thinking the bumps were evil shown,

Or the shadowy outline some dark creature,

Anxiety comes as a bonus feature,

Looking for hidden dangers,

Wary of the grinning stranger,

They know something is there,

But it's only they who care,

Thinking something is out for the kill,

But it's only the dark being still,

Yet there minds scream in defiance,

No, there has to be more in that silence!

They cower in their beds,

Not knowing the monsters  were only in their head
